Sister Jill Jaeb, OSU

Sister Jill Jaeb, OSU, also known as Sister Lauren, died peacefully on Jan. 16, 2025, in Eureka, Missouri. She was a gifted musician and artist whose creative light shone brightly during her many decades of ministry throughout the Ursulines’ Central Province and beyond. She was 82.
The daughter of Victor and Angela Schneider Jaeb, she was born on July 2, 1942, in Owatonna, Minnesota. She entered the Ursuline community on July 19, 1960, and professed her vows on Jan. 20, 1963. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art from the College of New Rochelle and a master’s degree in musical education from North Texas State University.
She began her ministry as an educator in Illinois, teaching at Ss. Peter and Paul School in Alton from 1967-68. Serving next in Texas, she taught at Ursuline Academy of San Antonio from 1968-72 and O’Connell High School in Galveston from 1973-77. She taught music to elementary grades at Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Galveston from 1978-80.
From 1981-85, Sister Jill served in parish ministry at St. Mary’s of the Lake in Lake City, Minnesota. She was music director for St. Norbert parish in Florissant, Missouri, from 1985-98. She served in pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Juneau, Alaska, from 1998-2005 and had a music ministry in Dallas from 2008-2018. In retirement, she continued to share her love of music with the residents of her retirement home in Dallas.
Sister Jill was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Descourouez, and a brother, Bob Jaeb. Survivors include two brothers, Ronnie Jaeb and Tom Jaeb.
A memorial Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Ursuline Academy Chapel in Kirkwood, Missouri. A private burial was held on Jan. 22 at St. Peter Cemetery in Kirkwood.
