June 24, 1936 – May 6, 2022

Sister Rita Joseph Mascorro, OSU, died peacefully May 6, 2022, at St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka, Missouri. A native of Laredo, Texas, she spent decades in ministry in her hometown.

The daughter of Mercurio and Josefa Trevino Mascorro, she was born June 24, 1936, in Laredo. She entered the Ursuline community on July 15, 1959, and professed her vows on Jan. 16, 1962. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Incarnate Word College.

In Laredo, Sister Rita Joseph at Ursuline Academy from 1965-68 and 1970-75, and at Our Lady of Guadalupe from 1968-69 and 1980-2007. She also taught at St. Angela Merici School in New Orleans from 1969-70, St. Joseph School in Springfield, Illinois, from 1975-78, and Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Galveston, Texas, from 1979-80.

One of nine children, she is survived by a brother, Susano Mascorro.

A graveside prayer service and burial were held May 13 at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Kirkwood, Missouri. A memorial Mass is planned for June.
