Sister Peggy Hill, OSU

Sister Peggy (Margaret Therese) Hill, OSU, died peacefully May 14, 2021, at Chateau de Notre Dame Nursing Home in New Orleans.
The daughter of Arthur Bernard Hill and Irene Elizabeth McLean Hill, she was born April 25, 1935, in Teaneck, New Jersey. Her family moved to Dallas, Texas, and she attended Ursuline Academy there, graduating in May 1953. She entered the Ursuline community that summer and professed her vows in January 1956.
Sister Peggy earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York, and master’s degrees from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, New York.
Her first teaching assignment was in the elementary and secondary departments of Ursuline Academy in New Orleans, from 1959-65, where she was known as Mother Madeline Marie. She next became principal of St. Patrick’s elementary school in Galveston, Texas, followed by years of ministry in San Antonio and Dallas, Texas.
In San Antonio, she served as local leader of the Ursulines from 1971-75 and worked in public relations at Ursuline Academy from 1977-78. She was worship coordinator at St. Paul Catholic Church from 1992-94, director of the Ursuline Academy alumnae center from 1994-96, a theology instructor at Our Lady of the Lake University from 1995-96, and secretary of the local Ursuline community from 1992-95.
She taught theology at Ursuline Academy in Dallas from 2004-09 and served in leadership of the Dallas Ursuline community from 2008-18.
Sister Peggy also served in Thailand, Canada and Mexico.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Paul; brothers Richard, Gerald, William, Robert and Arthur; and sisters Colleen Carmichael and Jeanne Marie Minnick. She is survived by her sister Mary Pat (Charlie) Liggio and many nieces and nephews and their children.
