Stories About Sisters

Sister Mary Margaret has a message for her former students: “They were a great joy in my life. I have many happy memories of them, no matter where I was.”

Sister emphasizes that an Ursuline education had a high value: “We did two things. We had high standards for our students, but we also had a place for those children who had a hard time learning, especially in the grade schools. To an extent, we were like mothers to the children . . .”

“I was really close to the students – most of the nuns were really close to the children. They would come to us with their burdens and problems, just to talk to somebody and to know somebody cared about them. Sometimes all they needed was a word or two to get them on their way. I always felt we did more than teach.”

You may remember Sister Mary Margaret from St. Thomas and St. Patrick’s in Decatur, Illinois; Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph’s in Springfield, Illinois; SS. Peter and Paul, in both Collinsville and Alton, Illinois; St. Peter’s, Kirkwood, Missouri; and St. Rose of Lima, DeSoto, Missouri.
